The Florence Competition Programme (FCP) of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (RSCAS) will hold a series of Advanced Competition Seminars in the framework of the activities of the 2018/2019 edition of the FCP Annual Training, following the lectures of each residential block at the EUI campus. The Seminars have been conceived as half-day policy events, intended to gather academics, practitioners, officials from National Competition Authorities (NCAs) as well as industry representatives. Being devoted to a special different topic each time, the initiative represents a unique opportunity to discuss the most recent developments recorded in the field of competition law and economics.
ECN+ DIRECTIVE CONSEQUENCES FOR NATIONAL COMPETITION LAW ENFORCEMENT
On Saturday, 15 September 2018, the FCP held its first Advanced Competition Seminar. The event dealt with the ECN+ Directive, a proposal to make EU Member States’ NCAs more effective enforcers, which the Commission presented on 22 March 2017 and forwarded to the European Parliament and the Council for adoption. During the round table discussion, in particular, participants analysed whether the provisions contained in the ECN+ Directive will strengthen the NCA’s powers with reference to their whole range of competition law enforcement tools. It was also assessed whether the proposal has provided for minimum standards to empower the authorities to reach their full potential across EU national jurisdictions.

Fee
The cost of participation is EUR 150. The fee is waived for FCP donors, NCAs, academics, FCP Annual Training alumni as well as participants already enrolled in the FCP Annual Training, third edition (2018/2019).
EUI PhD researchers are welcome to apply.
FCP donors can be invited to speak.

The seminars take place at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute in Fiesole, Florence.
Please keep in mind when booking your tickets that Florence is also well connected to Pisa and Bologna airports.
Pisa is 80 km away and it served by both trains (1h15) and buses (50 minutes)
Bologna is 100 km away and it is served by high-speed trains – Trenitalia or Italo (30 minutes from Bologna central station to Florence main station of Santa Maria Novella). From the airport to Bologna train station about 30 minutes by bus.
